GOLIATH MOMENTS

GOLIATH MOMENTS
are those seemingly impossible situations that we all must face on this journey called life. And while we may not be able to fight them in our own strength we must realize that, “With God all things are possible”
(Luke 1:37). Also, he’ll never leave us alone (See Hebrews 13:5).

We may never have to face a 9 to 11 foot giant who was trained from his youth to be a warrior like David, a mere shepherd boy, did but we all face Goliath’s in our lives. It could be a new job, school, a broken relationship, training, moving to a new neighborhood, a big test, and the list goes on  …

David, with God’s help won that battle.

When Sarah, who was well beyond her years for childbearing, heard God say that she would give birth to a son she laughed in disbelief. But sure enough when Abraham was about 100 years old and she was 90 God allowed them  to know one another and Sarah became pregnant.

Once while facing impossible odds against oncoming vast armies King Jehoshaphat called for his people to fast and pray. As a result God gave them instructions on what to do which resulted in a great victory for them. Through a prophet God told him, “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s (2 Chronicles 20:15 NIV). Instead of directing the people to get their weapons ready and to put the best warriors out in front, “After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the Lord and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: “Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever.” 22 As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated. 23 The Ammonites and Moabites rose up against the men from Mount Seir to destroy and annihilate them. After they finished slaughtering the men from Seir, they helped to destroy one another. 24 When the men of Judah came to the place that overlooks the desert and looked toward the vast army, they saw only dead bodies lying on the ground; no one had escaped. 25 So Jehoshaphat and his men went to carry off their plunder, and they found among them a great amount of equipment and clothing and also articles of value—more than they could take away. There was so much plunder that it took three days to collect it” (2 Chronicles 20:15-25).

As we face the battles in life that come our way, as God’s children we too should fast and pray for God to give us victory over whatever it is that we’re facing. Write down your list and begin asking him to give you victory regarding each thing (GOLIATH) you are facing right now.
And sing, “Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever”  throughout the course of the day and beyond if need be. Let this become a practice for life. Let’s trust God and see him give us the victories we desire.  Let’s fast and pray for God to give us victory over whatever it is that we’re facing.
